End of the year party!!!

Hard to believe that it's already time to wrap up the year. The kids definitely have spring fever and are thinking about the summer that they have waiting for them. I would like to start planning the end of the year party for my class. I'm still waiting for the staff calendar to set a date, I know that there are many things being planned for our final week.
Please let me know if you will be able to donate your time for the party or any treats. I thought we could maybe have an ice cream sundae party. Any other thoughts or ideas that anyone may have please let me know. I just want to allow myself time to put everything together for my class. I would like to tentatively schedule the party for Thursday, the 24th. I will definitely let you know once I see the calendar.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.....

I would like to recieve feedback in regards to the use of my classroom blog this year. This is a relatively new concept and I have enjoyed keeping the blog up and running. I would like to know if this has helped to increase communication between the classroom and parents. My goal was to cut back on the notes going home and being lost between school and home. There is so much information that goes home each week and sometimes each week. If you could take a minute and either send an email or a note with your student I would appreciate it. The following are some questions that I would like to have answers on, if you have any feedback, positive or negative, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your help.
* Do you use this communication device frequently?
*Does having the weekly phonics words available assist you and your child?
*Were the postings helpful with communication?
*Were there items posted on the blog that were not necessary? Was there information that could have been posted that was not?
*Would you suggest to continue this blog for next year?

Don't Forget.......

Please don't forget that our field trip is this Thursday, April 20th, 2007 to the Phoenix Zoo. Please remember to come prepared, you need to have your lunch, sunscreen, water bottle and a hat. Volunteers, please be in the classroom by 8:00 so that you can coordinate with the teachers. Please if possible, have your student wear a red uniform shirt, all 2nd graders will be in the same color so that we will be easily identified.

What a great day

We could not have asked for a more beautiful morning. The kids were so excited and it was great to see all of the team colors out on the field. We had some great activities to enjoy. Mrs. Jones worked so hard to make this event unfold, please take a minute to thank her for all of her hard work and dedication to our kids! Thank you too to all of the aides and volunteers who helped at each event. It was GREAT!

Field Day on Monday, April 16th!!!!

Monday, April 16th will be our school field day. 2nd grade will participating first thing in the morning from 8:30 - 10:30. Students must come to school ready to play. Our team color is green, please be creative getting dressed. I did not have the resources to make a team shirt. I do have green arm bands for the class and face paint for everyone.

Students will need to bring their uniforms to change into after the field day activities, as there will be water involved. Please make sure that your child has sunscreen and a hat if possible, the weather for Monday looks hot.

Mrs. Jones, the PE coach, has worked very hard to put together a fun and exciting day for the students. Here are the following activities that they will be participating in: Tug-O-War, Sack Relay, Noodle Hockey, Egg Race, Parachute, Dodge Ball, Wade for Marbles, Leaky Can Race, Hula Hoop/Jump rope contest and the 50 yd dash. After all the work they will be rewarding with popsicles. Students will be judged on fairness at each station. Please talk with your children about the concepts of teamwork, helping others, playing fair, postive attitude and following directions. The winning team will get a trophy.

We're Learning to Measure

In order to prepare our students for the Terra Nova testing that we will be taking in two weeks, I am going to do an additional lesson each day. Today we are going to begin measuring. Students will now have 2 math assignments to complete each day. I want the students to be familiar with the concepts so that they are not surprised by any test questions. If you need additional practice at home, please visit the EduPlace website. The link is located at the bottom of the page.
